The keyboard works when the iPad is attached, since it connects via the 3-pin connector and not wirelessly.
Charging port, and the pencil in place
The iPad can be charged through the keyboard’s integrated USB-C port or directly through the iPad’s own port, even while it is attached to the keyboard. The integrated Apple Pencil holder keeps the pencil in place along the edge of the folio, so it always comes along.
